vokf 0
Here is the track lost - what do you think? I'll have to check, I've got most of the biggies. I've done a few childrens gigs lately and they wanted bang up to date stuff, so its hardly worth getting for an estimated 5-10 tracks. However, there is some good stuff in there, so worth getting if you need to get some recentish tracks in. Jason

supersound dj 0
dont forget they are aimed @ the general public and not djs. They also have to fill the gaps between the timescale of the previous now album with popular hits. They are only released 2 - 3 times a year and your prodisc is released monthly. Paul
Nedd 0
Another poor now album... what are they still calling them NOW for when they are so THEN Of course its another poor Now album, its reflective of what has been released over the last 3 or so months, a load of poor music.(IMHO)

Paul Have been buying the pro discs lately, and tbh, they're OK, but wonder if DMC discs are slightly better value-for-money.. There's a few on the Now 70 CD I haven't got and I'll probably buy it for the general collection anyway.. No Doubt one of the supermarkets will flog it for a tenner on day one.. (like the last one). I still have Now 5 on vinyl - but I'd bet its quite warped now as its been in the loft for about 7 years! (that along with about 9-10 other Now vinyls!). Gary 0
Ive got all the other incrementally numbered Now Albums, so I'll be getting this one too (one two). There's only a handful of new songs on there that I havent got already, although some of those that I have already, I'll probably "lose" in favour of the radio edits on the Now album. This will in fact be one of the first CDs that I have legally ripped courtesy of my Pro-Dub Licence, which I got on-line last week. I've noticed that the Now Albums, and I guess many other compilation CDs seem to follow what could be a very sneaky mbit of marketing with the way that their track listings go. Have you noticed that the "good" tracks are the first few on Disc 1, then there's some drivvel, then a few more good'uns on disc 1, then some more filler, then a good one or two tracks at the bottom of disc 1. Disc 2 also starts off with a good track or 2 usually, then utter drivvel on tracks 3 to about 7 or 8, then a good one, then pretty dull until two or 3 before the end, then a duff track or two, then ending with a novelty track, or just a slightly better than nothing ender. All the good tracks seem to be at exactly where your skimmimg eye falls to as you glance through the track listings. Edited July 9, 2008 by jukeboxdj

Gary 0
Does anyone else remember the Now albums being released more frequently than they are now? I've been collecting the Now albums since the first one and I vaguely recall them being released about 4 times per year, now it just seems to be 2 or 3. I'm just refering to the ascending numbered Nows eg: Now 5,6,7.....69, 70 etc not including the Now 1983's, Now Decades, Now Christmas Etc. I think its a shame that the Nows are not more frequently released, perhaps one every 3 months. Although perhaps they might be scratching around (more) for decent tunes to include on each quarters discs if they tried to release them more frequently than they do now. deejaymitch 0
I have every track on Now 70 except one which I don't really want. But, as I've bought Now 1-69, I'll still buy Now 70, and all future releases to keep the set together. With so much new, mainly substandard, appearing from so many sources though, I think the day of the compilation album has gone. Picking up a few individual tracks as and when they get hot might be the way forward. Post edited by Moderator. I've got Now 23-Now 69, and I'm sure I remember they used to be released more frequently.. Perhaps I'm just getting old, and its the same effect as "Wagon Wheels being bigger when I was a lad..." With Radio 1 playing re-releases so often, its amazing there isn't more call for bang up to date stuff by the public. Gary, Will you be getting it? If I didn't have most of the Now CD's, I'd probably skip - the Pro Discs cover most, and Albums the others. I'd be more inclined to cherry pick via downloads, paying £2 or £3 vs £10-15 I'll be duly purchasing it at the end of the month. I would like to see a more frequent release schedule, perhaps with CD2 being with brand new artists which would help new artists get more mainstream exposure. Jason
Gary 0
.. Perhaps I'm just getting old, and its the same effect as "Wagon Wheels being bigger when I was a lad..." It could be the Wagon Wheel effect, I guess ... just like "are there less butterflies nowadays, or are we just too busy to notice them anymore?". Rats! You made me want to go out and buy a Wagon Wheel now... With Radio 1 playing re-releases so often, its amazing there isn't more call for bang up to date stuff by the public. I wonder if the re-plays of the older tracks on the radio as well as older tunes being used in current TV ads etc, lead the publics music choices in some cases eg: "I got reminded of that old track earlier today, I wouldnt mind dancing to it now"...rather than "I've heard nothing but old stuff all day/week, play me something I've never heard of...thud thud thud thud th...cheers..." Gary, Will you be getting it? It depends what mood the Mrs is in .... OH, you meant Now 70... (didn't you?) Yes, I'll be getting it - I dont tend to shop around all that much - nor buy the CD on-line from a Jersey/US tax haven etc - I might surf the websites of the 4 major supermarkets to ascertain who's selling it for £9.97, rather than £14.99 etc then go out and buy it when I'm in that supermarket within the next few days. I would like to see a more frequent release schedule, perhaps with CD2 being with brand new artists which would help new artists get more mainstream exposure. I think that if they (NOW / Emi/virgin etc) launched more frequenty, they'd have to change the format, as you say, maybe CD2 should be something else other than the "fairly well known" as it currently is. The other option is that they drop the Now albums to a single CD every month or two, but I think that would wreck their "winning formula". Winning? Well, ok, we're having a grumble about it not being frequent or up to date enough, but as its out lasted all the other contenders in the long-running double compilation CD marketplace, so "Now" has got to be doing something right, maybe not for the fraction of a percent of DJs, but for the mass market public purchasers. I used to collect the "Hits" compilation albums too, but they seemed to fall by the wayside, compared to the Now series (and spin-offs).
vokf 0
Rats! You made me want to go out and buy a Wagon Wheel now... Enjoy the Wagon Wheel.. Just munched a Jaffa Cake Bar... (damm tasty too) I must say, that when ripping my Now collection, it was like going back in time, so many memories (for me, it was leaving school, 1st job etc) It took ages though, 4 PC's running for about 3 nights. I too will buy it, purely to keep the collection up to date, but probably fill in with the odd Pro Disc, or selective download. I was reading the Now 69 posts from earlier this year (?), and its mainly the same comments -out of date but useful for filling in gaps. Jason
DiscoandKaraoke 0
I buy them purely as back up, if the laptop does ever go down. I completely agree. Everything on there that's of any use I already have, but CD backups are always useful. davemoody 0
The only new tracks I buy nowadays are the latest NOW cd's. I mostly do weddings and older functions and I got sick of subscribing to various latest cd offerings and not play most of them. This year has been pretty dire for really good tracks. Saw the death when they stopped doing the charts and went to include mp3 sales as well. Waste of time. I will continue to buy it as I still mainly use cds anyway.
kenny wisdom 0
Tesco, £9.70 for "One week only". From a "listener" (as opposed to professional) point of view, CD1 is good solid car stereo fare, CD2 doesn't do anything for me until about track 16!
