  1. Get in touch with the manufacturer or importer and order replacements from them perhaps?. Seriously there are many different types of LED's out there, all with different brightness light outputs, colour temperatures and forward voltages, guessing which one will work in the same way as the one it replaces are almost the same odds as doing the lottery. Without a part number and manufacturer, it is literally a gamble. Best case, is that it won't look right or will be dim Worst case, is you damage the main unit or take the rest of the LED's out, meaning you then have to replace all of th
  2. The need to use an agent only comes from the apathy to go out and do your own marketing and advertising. If you think that 12% - 15% is bad, hire a PR / Marketing company to get you work Seriously its a small price to pay for the hours of leg work that 'you' aren't willing to put in yourself. At the end of the day if you are happy with the Agents fee less 12% - 15% in commission then get out there and market yourself, and get the booking from the client before they find the agent, after all, your fee is always going to be 12% - 15% less than the agents' quote anyway, so what
  3. Personally i'd leave well alone, lasers are specialised pieces of kit. There are often very high voltages involved with those types of (Red) laser, and like a Cathode Ray Tube on an old television set, they are delicate and fragile to work with, and require some calibration in order to set up once replaced. The green diode, is just that, a charge-pumped diode, so its more compact and the hassle with tubes doesn't apply, however they still need adjusting and setting up properly, all of which with lasers, requires expensive and dedicated workshop equipment Its also important that you r
  4. First of all, are you 100% sure that it was arranged by the venue and they just weren't the hosts for it?. Most of the time they are arranged by dedicated national Wedding Fayre companies, Bridal Magazines or local Newspapers. Secondly, the easiest way to find out would probably have been to get into conversation with another (non competing) exhibitor, whilst you were there, and steer around the conversation to the point where you could actually ask!. Unfortunately, these events are often planned well before they are publicised, and the people responsible for it will already have con
  5. So do DJ's actively appear on these LEA approved lists?, do we get a mention?. I assume that we do, if some Schools are actively asking us to produce / obtain CRB. Yep, clearly this is the case, as my call to my own local Council and also the links to the other schools seem to already indicate and suggest. This site is also useful:- http://www.moneymagpie.com/article/767/de-...tions-answered/ Which seems to suggest that self employed people should seek a Subject Access report from their local Police station. Which seems to be bad advice, if one disclosure which
  6. MJ MAC - Can we have a link please to where this is fact, ideally a .gov based site if possible. I ask because its clear to me that a lot of Schools aren't following the guidelines you mention in providing the contractor with a CRB via their own internal process. I've relayed your advice verbally to my local Council who dismissed it as 'utter nonsense' and have told me that its up to the individual contractor or their employer to seek out a CRB check, its not something that the local schools would do. I also asked the same Council if 'contractor' extended to my line of work, and again the
  7. Peavey are fine, plenty of well established DJ's and Bands use them. :dukesy: Far better than using cheaper unknown Chinese brands with dubious wattage ratings
  8. Okay, well you certainly shouldn't be considering running both the 8 ohm and 4 ohm speakers off each channel, as it will take it below the amplifiers' design rating of 4 ohms load per channel. So you have the following options. 1) Assuming they are full range speakers, then use just the 4 ohm speakers connected one spkr per channel. This will give you the full rated 500W per channel output of the amplifier, through just the one pair of 4 ohm speakers. However the speakers will need to be able to take the full 500W of the amplifier. Do you know the RMS rating of the 4 ohm speakers?
  9. Hi and welcome to DJU In one word - NO Unless your amplifier has the specification of being able to work continuously into low loads of below 4 ohms then its not going to be recommended. From your description, your amplifier is only suitable for driving 2x 8 ohm speakers per channel (a combined total load of 4 ohms per channel), so by connecting 1x 8 ohm and 1x 4 ohm speakers to each channel, you will take each channel below its designed 4 ohm rating and seriously run the risk of overloading the amplifier, which will eventually overheat the amplifier, introduce higher levels
  10. This doesn't come as a surprise, there is always a few areas still doing well (according to some DJ's), but in the main the Wedding industry is stagnant and has been for some time. Several venues in my area have closed, others have huge banners on their outside perimeter proclaiming their cut priced Wedding Packages for 2011 and its set to get worse.
  11. Seems that they are the Phoenix arising from the ashes of the company who were previously known as Source Manufacturing. Source Manufacturing ceased trading for reasons which are not known to me, and this seems to be their new formation. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27252 I would imagine that you would be reasonably okay in dealing with them. However, as with any online transaction, either use Paypal or better still, a credit card for your purchase, this way if there is any dispute, non delivery or they go bump in the night, you will be fully protected and get y
  12. From what i've read around the internet, it seems that there are a lot of people getting sick of these emails and as a result many individual complaints are currently being sent to this companies' domain registrar and hosting company due to the amount of continuous unsolicited emails which are being sent and also the fact that they are adding details of businesses to their mailing list without permission and an active opt-out link. Hosting companies take these complaints very seriously, as they can be fined heavily if they fail to take action when its brought to their attention, even more
  13. Errrr, that would be a good point apart from the fact that I don't work for a school or establishment, I'm SELF EMPLOYED :wall: If I was employed as a teacher - no problem, the school will arrange one prior to starting work If I was a social worker - no problem, the local Authority will arrange one but i'm a self employed entertainer, so non of the above applies, I don't work for an employer, I work for myself, and when a School books me for a disco, its a one off booking for one night and I am a third party subcontractor, i'm not actually on the school payroll or employed b
  14. Hi and welcome [back] I don't really see a problem, lots of teenagers start small businesses whilst they are still at school, and Derbyshire life recently ran a story of a 15 year old making quite a tidy bit of money from selling Hens! (The beauty of living in the Country, LOL). I know this is a lot different than DJ'ing, but the principle of working for yourself is the same. The only issue comes from possibly the same grey area that you had originally 4 years ago. Basically there are working time regulations for under 16's, which limit the number of hours that you can wor
  15. Here's an opportunity for you http://spendmatters.co.uk/invitation-tende...dding-services/
  16. Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated as i'll pass it on to the DJ concerned. In addition, i've also found something else regarding Tender Weddings on another Wedding Entertainers' website. The original content (posted Feb 8th) has been removed by the Author since it was posted, but you can still read the google cache of it. Warning:- Tender Weddings The complaint on the above site, seems to tally exactly with what has been said here. Unsolicited contact, the adding of business details to a directory / mailshot list regardless of the owners wishes or permission and then a v
  17. Yep, that looks like the one. Although they used to do them in green, it looks exactly the same.
  18. Has anybody used / is using the Tender Weddings directory? Just been speaking to a colleague of mine who reports that he has started getting random emails from Tender Weddings every couple of days, with clients enquiries contained on them. They seem to operate a system similar to Goodparty, whereby you get sent an enquiry containing the basic details, and then pay a fee in order to access the complete enquiry details and be able reply to the client with a quote. I think the fee for Tender Weddings is £2.50 What is strange to him, is that he's never heard of Tender Weddings and n
  19. Years ago, I used to use Ortofon Pro, I seem to remember they were are nice fluorescent green colour. Are they still going?
  20. Yes, but stuff was to made to last in those days. I wonder, how much of Today's equipment will still be working faithfully in 20 or 30 years time night-after-night, and with no large repair bill trail behind it?
  21. Well this has been a long time in coming, and IMO is well overdue. But from March 1st, the ASA will now be targeting and dealing with complaints over misleading claims on business websites. This is likely to spell the end of statements such as 'We are the best', 'The best little agency in......', 'We are the most competively priced', 'For the best service in town...' etc etc etc Its also likely to put paid to those other website claims in relation to competitors, such as 'If your DJ doesn't have [pli, pat, pro-dub license] then they are operating illegally' So as an advi
  22. Q) Why Buy New? A) To avoid situations like the above! Sorry, couldn't resist the obvious pun, especially given the situation that you found yourself in, but at least you subscribed to the unwritten rule, and that is to always carry back up equipment for key parts of the system. There is always a bit of a gamble with buying any second hand or 'B' grade stock, but at least you have a 12 month(?), warranty to fall back on. Had it have been a second hand buy, you would either have an expensive looking ornament or be facing an unknown repair bill. Would be interesting to see
  23. The information which is being published in the press at the moment is still very vague as to which occupations are to be exempt. I suspect that those who work alone or on a 1:1 basis with Children, or who work at places where Children are residents (Children's Homes, Boarding Schools, Activity Centres) and those who are full time Child Minders will still need to have the check, all of which is common sense really. However, I think that occupations like ours, who occasionally work with groups of children, who are already being supervised by their parents / teachers etc, will not need a ce
  24. I expect this is a no no then! Tlou_2lMLAc Fancy having a go at Private Dancer, Dire Straits?
  25. What about a bit of Muddy Waters "Mannish Boy"? There are several vids of 'live performance, but this probably sounds the 'best'! x8LesTvNuaw
