  1. I would suggest that the number one consideration is how close your neighbours are. Under the new environmental laws if, after a warning, amplified noise is not reduced, the Police or local EHO has the power to immediately confiscate all equipment....... .....so get the organiser to hire the gear for you, in their name and with their credit card http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif
  2. QUOTE (High Fidelity @ Aug 24 2006, 10:02 AM) You're not being a complete div Ben, DMX is one of those things that just suddenly clicks in your mind but at first is totally baffling. So what you're saying is I'm a div, just not a COMPLETE div http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif Let's see if I've got this. http://www.kam.co.uk/products/lighting/images/spinflower250_dmx.jpg You've got 2 of these scanners. Scanner 1 is set to channels 1, 2 and 3 Scanner 2 is ser to channels 4, 5 and 6 If you wanted a flashing yellow star on scanner 1 you would set c
  3. According to my son (I have heard of him though, honest!!!) he's a remixer along the lines of Mylo, Tiesto, etc. BE WARNED Use a lot of sweary words, particularly the F word. Maybe he's Gordon Ramsay's love-child http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
  4. I thought that I'd understood the basics of DMX as I read through this thread until I found this chart for a DMX lighting effect. http://www.kam.co.uk/products/lighting/images/spinflower250_dmx.jpg If a lighting effect needs 3 Channels and you make the the channels 480, 481 and 482, how would the lights work if the above chart says, for example, that for the purple hand, it has to be between channel 140-149, or am I being a complete div and missing something. To all Moderators - If I am being a complete div, please delete my post IMMEDIATELY to prevent riducle from fellow member
  5. QUOTE (Jimbo55 @ Aug 23 2006, 01:59 PM) CRB is an 'English thing' as Scottish law is different. The CRB check also covers POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and POCA (Protection of Children Act). Am I right in thinking that this was the legislation rushed through after the Soham murders as some kind of 'fixit' to solve all child protection issues, and as usual it will penalise the law-abiding citizens who may be subject to a malicious compaint and the very bas http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif rds that should be barred from children will probably still get away
  6. Got this email from Denon. Not exactly helpful, and it's means I can't ask Santa for one http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/newyear.gif QUOTE Keith, There isn’t any official pricing, specs, etc as the product is due for launch next year – probably Jan/Feb. If you haven’t already seen the image of the DN-HD2500 go to: [same image as shown above] Regards, Miles Brooke UK Sales Manager D & M PROFESSIONAL - Europe

  9. I got to a stage after about twelve years full-time DJing where I was getting bored and peed-off and sometimes irritable with certain customers so I packed it in. I was enticed back about three years ago for my niece's birthday, then my daughter's birthday, then her friend's birthday, then my wife's friend's 40th and slowly got a rig together and I am working now and again and I'm enjoying it. I don't have the pressure of needing to work as a DJ full-time and I am being a bit choosy about the gigs I'm accepting. So as Steve suggested, why not take some time off, and then go back and se
  10. QUOTE (P.I.J. Roadshow @ Aug 21 2006, 08:28 PM)I did a 21st birthday party on saturday. I was handed this booking by a fellow dj and it turns out I went to school with the birthday girl. Unfortunately I usually went to school with their MOTHER http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sad.gif
  11. I currently use two Peavey Messenger Pro 15 4ohm speakers with a C-Mark 525W + 525W amp I am considering buying one Pro-15 sub (due to space in my vehicle) and I was wondering about powering this. I found this PVDJ PowerMode 4 amp and wondered if you thought it might be appropriate, CH 1+2 for the Pro 15s and CH 3+4 bridged powering the sub. Alternatively I thought about another C-Mark 525 and bridging the output to the sub. I could also use this for my main speakers if one amp went down during a gig. Any other suggestions for an amp would be gratefully received. Thanks
  12. Surely the problem is not bypassing the limiter but whether the venue owners explained to the clients that there was a limiter in use and that it could affect the disco. Why should we bypass a limiter, generally installed for, and set by the local Environmental Health, just to make the disco sound better, and perhaps divert the flak that the management should quite rightly receive from the unhappy guests. I've only worked with a limiter twice and on both occassions I directed the moaning guests to the manager and asked him to explain the situation. Why should I have to put up with sh http:/
  13. I made a bid with 7 seconds to go and won the item for £10.50, £16.49 incl P&P. I'll let you know what they're like when I receive them. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif
  14. That's certainly an option. I really just want to be able to stand at the side of the disco and help show the kids the actions whilst still being able to talk. For a tenner, I think it's worth a punt, but if there was something that was better, but not too expensive, I would certainly consider it.
  15. I'm glad you've found a solution. I'm always amazed at the way people find solutions to problems or else there's the other situation where you phone up tech support and explain your problem and the say "That's impossible, it can't do that" to which you reply "Well it is and I'm watching it right now", at which point there is an eerie silence at the end of the phone (cue brushwood drifting by) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/hide.gif
  16. QUOTE McCardle Posted on Aug 21 2006, 01:53 PM why cut corners with microphones they are your strongest and only link to convey you to the audience as an entertainer and and if your voice is not heard or its garbled then you may as well not bother speaking at all! it does amaze me how some deejays will spend hundreds on pretty lights but will skimp a few quid on their microphones & my comment is not a dig at the topic starter but more a generalised observation. my advice, get a decent, professional quality mic right from the start. I appreciate what you're saying and I have a shure m
  17. I'm prepared to be shot down in flames for even asking, but are these worth a tenner (fifteen if you include postage) Worth a Tenner??? I'm really looking for something for my kid's discos so I have my hands free for doing the actions but can still talk. Please be gentle with your replies http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
  18. Sounds like one of the CDs on Club Sh.te 2006, 36 non-stop hits (misspelt) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif
  19. I've never used the items in question but I remember using DMX lights before and a similar problem happened and it was something to do with the last light not being terminated, so the system was sending a signal and waiting for a reply, which it couldn't receive, so it just stopped. Hope this helps, http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif although it's possibly a load of pooh. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/pooh.gif
  20. I would agree with Andy. There are a number of factors which would mean that the same signal would display different readings on different led meters. Sometimes you can get too bogged down with levels, etc. So long as the output from the mixer was around 0dB and amp wasn't clipping, I shouldn't worry about it....... .......unless smoke starts coming out your amp or your speakers go bang http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fright.gif

Just had a call asking me if I'm free tonight. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif I did really fancy a quiet night in http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sleep1.gif It's at the Fantasy Palace Lap Dancing Club http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/attentionwhore.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/drool.gif Now, should I wear my Hi-Karate of Brut 33......... 22. I'm a little bit confused. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif Is CRB an English thing, because up here in Scotland we have Disclosure (Scotland) checks, where you pays your twenty quid and get a nice certificate listing ALL of your convictions, including traffic offences. I have this because I'm a taxi driver, not because I perform children's discos. There should NEVER be a requirement for this because unless your gig is for 10 children or less, you will always require other adults in the room with you, due to the adult/child ratios, so you are never working alone with the c
  23. Well, turned up at the hotel not knowing what I was doing, as the hotel hadn't bothered to tell the company I was working for. Last time I'd work in this hotel was about 12 years ago, but it was all right then, so wasn't to worried. Arrived to find they had 4 x 8" Mackie speakers on the wall, and that was it. Fired up the music and they sounded sh...te, even turning the bass up on my mixer didn't make it much better. Some people arrived and started to decorate the place with "Happy 21st" banners. Oh no, second worst only to an 18th. Father comes over and introduces himself and says it'
