  1. This is what i wanted to hear May i ask what is the actual time you start playing & time you finish Bu:cense:er
  2. I think being able to play the guitar & d.j is a talent i could not do it also it makes you stand out from the rest Some d.js offer karaoke as well as a disco NOT ME Some d.js offer video screens NOT ME I dont think i am talented in d.jing but i think the likes of judge jules is Anyway this has gone a bit off topic to my oridginal question tongue out icon
  3. Fantasic, something a little different that makes you stand out I had a friend who used to d.j as well as sing & play the guitar he was always fully booked up
  4. Ah Ha now were talking thanks analyst this is what i wanted, some suggestions i shall give this a try instead of waiting for people to talk to me I dont think i look un-enthusiastic in fact once its going i love it its just the initial start when your doing the job of a in house P.A
  5. Ok agreed some people do go to a night club for several hours, but with a club you know what your getting with the music ( dance, rnb ect) or you wouldn't go there I could refrase it & say "You wouldn't go to a night club for this long where you get say a hour of chart, a hour of 60s,70s and so on What i am talking about is a wedding/family do where you have kids & grannies I must point out as well that all the wedding venue's that i work in only have a 12am licence I do admire you stamina, down ere in Devon the latest any club stayed open was 1am (even Plymouth) back in th
  6. Ok so i have had a few repies to this but i think we are going off track a bit What i am saying is you've just spent a hour setting up you have been given a strict time to be set up by and yet to be honest at a wedding or birthday with about a 100 guests the 1st couple of hours are spent playing background music which the guests dont even notice As Analyst stated people turn up (eventually) chat, prop up the bar, buffet ect I have found over the years that the shorter the event the better the atmosphere, instead of 6 hours spacing out the good tunes you have 3 hours of solid good tunes
  7. Do you notice when you do a gig for family or friends it always starts out as......"would you like to come to my wedding" and then when you say "Yes love to" they then reply " You couldn't bring some of your disco kit along could you?" Just say it, YOU WANT ME TO D.J THEN!!!!!!!!
  8. I dont buy new albums, however if i do get a request of a tune i may not have then i look into it (ebay ect) But i also find sometimes the album version is not the same as the single release :damn:
  9. A party for a friend or relative i find is a lot easier your not under so much pressure & New years eve nearly everyone has a few :dan: But i must take my hat off to you thats one hell of a set :toot:
  10. I see your point on this as i do some work in a club but with a club its more people & some turn up at 10 others turn up 3am, what i am saying is a private booking all guests arrive at 6pm and worse they are sober
  11. The title is to get your attention ( i love djing really but dont customers get up your nose) A couple of questions that have been bothering me for years Why do people want a six to seven hour disco, you dont go to a nightclub for this long, a 100 guests are not going to dance for this long. What the hell do you play Weddings You play the 1st dance for the bride & groom, you get the crowd going then along comes the buffet do you....A carry on.....B slow it down (background music) or C...Advise the B&G its best to do the 1st dance after the buffet. After all no-one usa
  12. I do alot of 18th & 21st & usally they run very smoothly, but as you mentioned some do create problems I ask (after i have received their deposit ) which security firm they are using, it seems to make Mummy & Daddy think Usally this works & you see a couple very large uncle's helping out Also in my booking form i state that any damage to equipment or transport must be paid for Dont give up, if your abit unsure just go for the Family 18th & 21st
  13. Any members got one of these as i am thinking of getting one, your veiws/opionions would be appreacated
  14. You go for it my friend, my 12 year daughter has done a couple of discos at a community hall & wants to do more & i will encourage it If someone asks you to do a disco for them im sure at your age you dont bother with contracts ect and they in turn dont expect them from a 12 year old GO FOR IT & HAVE FUN
  15. Can get them for £115.00 if anybody is intrested, another member was intrested acme lighting send me a pm of your requirements In fact any member wants a deal on lighting from i-solution, LEDJ, ACME & WILDTEC let me know In my mind if a builder wants a trade account & cheaper products he can get it, so i will try for the d.js
  16. If i am doing a mix at home i use a Citronic Audio Capture Device ( one e-bay item no 310019030505) direct to the computer But if i do a live mix i use a mini disc player then use the audio capture device to record to computer then to disc
  17. I am one of the people who sells lighting on E-Bay & you can get good deals When i refit or replace lighting in a club or bar most of the time the owners scrap the old lighting, what i do is strip them down, clean up & replace any damaged/ broken parts But as other members have pointed out you have got to know your limit & do your research As i have a trade account with a couple of suppliers the prices of some new lights/ equipment are a bit high on e-bay compared with visiting a real shop Amps & speakers i would not touch But overall 2nd hand lights no problem as par
  18. Happened to me on New Years Eve, local hotel had booked up a cheap disco, turned out the cheap disco had been offered more money else where As i was already booked my reserve d.j wasn't, so the evening cost 3 times what they would have paid the cheap guy They just dont learn the same d.j who let them down was back again last weekend as if nothing happened Would i help this local hotel out again YES I WOULD But they would but i would charge extra for a late booking
  19. Might be mistaken but it might be Ghetto Heaven????
  20. Pardon ? tongue out icon In the same boat after 20 years going a bit mutton jeff in my right ear ( left ok ) have not been advised to give up yet but was suggested to turn it down a bit As for ear defenders tried them but it was like learning to d.j/mix all over again Anyone reading this i would recommend a hearing test once a year it only cost a few quid at your local docs
  21. Residency's are not all bad as i said before i am happy as larry where i am now, in fact i would safely say that i get more mobile work from my residency than i have ever advertising As long as i sort out a d.j to cover me the boss is happy I also find when its a landlord running a venue its more personal than when a manager who for the sake of a few quid would rather save his a:cense: than yours (well thats business)

  23. This is intresting, in 20 years i have never done games at a wedding I often walk around & ask guests for requests I do the normal party tunes...opps upside your head ect ect & people join in I would like to know what sort of party games can you do at weddings???? What happens if you ask people to join in the game & they dont and your left with no one
