  1. It is sh*te, but my kids (8 and 6) love it, they played it at my 40th http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif
  2. QUOTE if i had my way you would all be running a form of Unix or Linux. Finally! The voice of reason! During the day, I am an IT Support person working for a company which does all the backroom server, money transaction server, WEB server etc.... Enterprise servers. These run Unix which is resilliant, not prone to crashes / attack / vulnerabilities etc... basically they are stable. In the last 2.5 years, I have run a Mac at home which runs OSX which is basically unix. Net result: no crashes, no virii infection, easy to use. Granted, the mac is dearer, but I get peace of mind and al
  3. Good job my family are not Trevor, William, Anne, and Theresa http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif As my name is Brian Mole, I used to call the disco: The Mole in the Hole Roadshow in the 80's and early 90's, but with the advent of the wwwwwwwww thing in the mid 90's I came up with DANCEMIX, which has stuck and it describes what I provide. We do have names for some of our friends: Analog Andy got his name because he could not progress from vinyl - vinyl forever (he has now, at long last) DJ Dory keeps forgetting everything Dave Double-dex will allways be Dave double-

  6. Hi, I have been offered a new Friday night residency in a late bar/ club. Deal is I take the door and promote, bar supplies doormen, drinks promotions. I have no problem with doing the DJing, booking guest DJs, but I have no real experience of promoting the night and getting the punters in. Before I say yes, I need constructive advice. Where better to ask than DJU http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
  7. Saturday - hosting an Oscars party in Horsham for my 40th, looks like 100 have rsvp'd, should be like a small DJ convention http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif . This will feature the DJ debut of my 8year old daughter http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif So, if you fancy a night out in Horsham, PM me before 2:30 today http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/bigstar.gif Sunday - recover
  8. QUOTE 7) Buy Gary shares in Pioneer http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif
  9. Well, I don't own one, but there are a whole load of Mobile jocks in Kent I know use cdmix2 day in day out. I had to use one recently for 2 hours. I was really apprehensive, but I must say it was very easy to use, sounded ok, and the cueing was good enough to mix with http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/goodjob.gif Nicely put Paula, a forum is for advice, and sharing experiences - not dissing
  10. I will be looking out for any new innovative product. I love technology, so I am going with mey eyes open. Can't wait to see what Vestax bring in as a spoof this year, maybe it's time to feature the vinyl cutter as a spoof device! I wish to try the Allen & Heath Xone:92 and the Denon DN-X1500, and those cheeky little DN-S1000 cd players. I hear Numark have some intersting DVD products being developed for VJing. I also hear Pioneer have a new mix device to go with their DVJ-X1. I also want to find the DJA stand and see what they can offer the DJ as well as making contacts with oth
  11. I start with £250 for a basic gig for up to 100 guests. Anything inside the south/north circular, add £180. Extra hours, sound, lights, etc... add more. That £180 uplift covers 2 extra hours travelling each way, parking, irritation fee (having to put up with the breed of people who work in central London, commute by train, and therefore get deeply drunk and think it is their right to abuse the DJ verbally, put drinks down on my deck to go and dance), pollution fee (I hate inhaling diesel fumes), and the worry of getting carjacked fee, not to mention food, drink, etc... The last gig in c
  12. OK, it would have to be the following: Funktion-one sound system Martin lighting Pioneer CDJ1000 cd decks (already have these!) Allen & Heath Xone92 Inflatable roadie
  13. Can you pop down to plasa and have a play?
  14. I keep it simple for up to 100 guests: 1 x Martin Destroyer, 1 x constella Pro-twin, 4 x Par56 on dimmable controller, all on 2 stands behind each speaker. I also have a LED starbox around the dex. I then add UV cannon, extra destroyer, NJD , 4 more par56, constella astra scanners, ropelights, message display for extra guest numbers and depending on the venue size. I alvays try and wind the stand nice and high so that no-one brains themselves on the lights, and for coverage. I also try to keep the lights to the floor avoiding seating areas as people hate beams in the eyes. So, my li
  15. QUOTE (PS, Brian, I know how you feel. I live in Brighton, but seem to end up travelling to Surrey and Kent for most gigs. Since Jan, I have only done 6 gigs in the Brighton area. I think the main reason is that the excess of DJ’s in Brighton seems to have pushed average rates down to much lower than I can get in other areas.) Ok, drifting from the original topic here, but speaking to venue managers, they admit most of their DJs don't have PLI, or are used to playing to a wall instead of an audience. So, as a pro commercial DJ, you have a great selling point for a start, and when you make t

  17. I have only done about 2 weddings which have run to time in my entire career! It's a bit like expecting a band to leave you enough space to set up http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif - hardly ever happens
  18. QUOTE Saturday: Wedding. B&G have given me a PLAYLIST full of indie "music" and NO CHEESE ON ANY ACCOUNT which runs into several pages of a4 to be played in a particular order despite explaining how I work at booking time. So, I have dragged the PCDJ pro thing outa mothballs, loaded all the songs, jukebox!! Lets see how many of the 70 guests will still be there at 8:05 Actually, it could work ok... we'll see. Well, it went very very well! Whole audience on their feet from start to finish, B&G very happy. I'll now put the PCDJ shuttle back into mothballs... Sunday: average wedd

  20. QUOTE Brian, did the manager leave or get asked to leave ? No idea, who cares! So, I am also now looking for a Friday night res http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  21. PARTYCHRIS and I DJ'd in a 1100 capacity nightclub. One night, 3 punters turned up! Still got paid - just. Just heard the "manager" has left http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/363.gif

  23. I have 2 Numark Dimension 4 amplifiers. They are really good value for money, considering the specs. Most useful feature is a built in adjustable low pass filter that can be switched in. This means that when I just run the full range speakers, I use the amp in a normal mode, and when I want to also run my bass bins, I switch on the low pass filter so the bass bins just get bass http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif Downside: http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored2.gif ing heavy!
  24. Friday: Got up at 5am, went to work, came home, loaded up, drove to local wedding in 5star hotel, got home at 3am http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sleep1.gif That's a 22 hour day - ouch. The wedding was for a French man and his Scottish wife hence the request to finish on auld lang syne. The band were a brilliant 7 piece outfit playing classic soul http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/notworthy.gif . Played the usual stuff plus some french, RAI, etc.. most enjoyable. Saturday: tried to stay awake, then did a wedding for a very tall couple, english man married to a Croatian
  25. QUOTE Premium for a 1.9D Scudo would be £1332 Fully comprehensive or £884 TPFT http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif Blimey, the youngster have to pay a lot on insurance! I pay £450 fully comp business use on a 3.2 Omega MV6 estate. Can you not strike up a business relationship with the local van hire co? If I need a transit (3 seats), I pay about £39 for the hire. That has got to be cheaper than running your own vehicle at this time. Some hirers will even let you have an overnight rate, but you try waking up in time after a gig to return the van http://www.dj-forum.co.
