It's quiet possible that the cortex isn't actually off, but in a "sleep" state, and configured for USB wake-up.. (the USB port is still alive and well even though the unit appears off). Many laptops & PCs do it too. Cheers, David

USB can be finickity at times - Try a new USB lead - i had one that was slightly dodgy and caused weird timeout issues with a drive - replaced the USB lead and all was fine.. Cheers, David

I think the problem with not seeing the HDD in question is that it might a) not have been partitions (blank), or previously partitioned with non-DOS partitions, or an entirely different format altogether (like OSX does). Once you get the partition table sorted, you should just be able to right-click the drive in Windows and format as FAT32... Cheers, David

Surely IP66 is more for "strong water jets: Water projected in powerful jets (12.5mm nozzle) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.". Probably overkill for a pint being dropped on the unit? If anyone is vaguely interested in what each of the digits means... then have a look here:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code Cheers, David

Careful with the VistaPrint freebies, as they may print "printed by VistaPrint" on them, which doesn't look that professional if you ask me!

They're not that good either I've found! Best to get the drive that your caddy supports. What drive types *does* the drive bay take? Cheers, David

If a lighting channel stays on permanently (and the mimic LED's say otherwise), then its a sign that a triac has blown in the "on" state, and it needs replacing... Ryger do foot-controllers, as do Transcension. What wattage are your Par Cans? Bear in mind that all-on may not put all 4 channels on at the same time - if the unit is rated at up to 1kW a channel (as max that you can put through a 13A plug is 3kW). Cheers, David

If there's two black connectors on the end of the drive which are quite small, its most likely going to be a SATA drive (It should say SATA somewhere on the label of the drive). If there's a row of 40 pins in a shrouded housing on the end of the drive, this is an IDE or PATA drive, and is older technology (has been around for *years*), and was superceded by SATA. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4gpXHrXKkks/SlEBdHjWFnI/AAAAAAAAAGY/0LiM3ds3IRQ/s400/SATA%20and%20PATA.png Cheers, David

Cripes, the NJD bog-standard chaser has dropped in price somewhat! I loved that unit when I had one 20 years ago... Blew a couple of triacs though in it a few times when bulbs blew... :/ Cheers, David

Love I lost was Sybil. Robyn S did "Show me Love" 90's dance-er> :) Cheers, David

BEP - I gotta feeling I've not actually played it at a couple of gigs now... I've also moved it to "later" in the evening (last hour) when I do play it... Cheers, David

I've seen an increase in enquiries via need-a-disco and findmyparty. Had no luck with the free credit with the second one - also gives you the budget, and details - all bar the email and phone number... n-a-d has been OK - but not so sure of their current method of "budget / mid priced / etc categorization - Also you get very little detail afaik unless you have a PIN number to access it (unless you've subscribed to it)... Cheers, David

Possibly down to pot luck - you can never guage what is going to work / not work until the night itself... I've had massive reactions to songs which I didn't expect to work or never thought about before (they were requests).. Have been listening to the latest CD Pool Radio disc and there's a few tracks on there I forsee as being potentially quite big (Katy Perry - Peacock - I wonder why?! And A Kylie + 2 others track, which imho i keep playing a lot!).. Anyway, I've been on the italian wine (and at a non-dj client dinner).. and err ought to go bed or something. David, in W

ADJ have now have previews of their new two VMS units, one for traktor and one for Virtual DJ.. The year of the midi controller?
-
If you look at the Traktor version (There's also a Serato version), its features/buttons are less than some of the other controllers out there. The only innovation on it is the finger swipe (as found on the CDJ-2000). Its also got same look and feel as the CDJ-400's though... Personally I think you need more of an external mixer, than some of the other devices. There's only one line-in and the control for it is on the back. Also the Mic input doesn't have any EQ either... :/ But I guess its priced in the "Pioneer" bracket of the market... Interesting how many of these contr

Have you ever been to the club before? If not, ask the client what kind of music they want? Cheers, David

I noticed another site has put their prices up as well a similar amount. The problem with them is that their fee "seems" random amounts. They've also been seeing a lot more emails / enquiries from them (I bougth one with free credit from a year ago, and no response). Have been seeing an increase of direct email enquiries over the last week or so - but wonder if its because December was a quiet period for enquiries and everyone's now trying to sort themselves for the next couple of months, DJ-wise? Cheers, David

:welcome: I've been to Wrexham (Wrec'sam isn't it spelled as on the signage?) a couple times - Its not too far from Chester ! Cheers, David, living in the halfway house of Bolton & Wigan

Or in one of my recent cases, a dodgy generator that only pumped out about 160 volts as it wasn't big enough to cope with the village hall. Horrible sound issues for the last hour and a half of the gig (and the *best* bit too) :/ Cheers, David

A very limited number (nil?!) will read cdg discs - you're not alone! Cheers, David

I mostly had it wired to my hifi unit and just 3 spot bulbs. Although had to use a small audio transformer in order to get anything out of the unit though at low volumes. Worked quite well though... I think the unit has long since been flogged at some car boot sale years ago after I left my parents home. I knew I should've kept it somewhere... I did always find that bass + mid flashed "opposite" the treble channel a lot - however could have been more to do with my audio input rather than the unit. Ahh memories! Cheers, David

Yep on the old 301 :)

You could always get the .com as well and redirect it to your .co.uk domain... Cheers, David
