Tonights function got off to a bit of a late start. Arrived at 6.30pm as agreed. Client arrives in her Chelsea tractor but the hall is locked. We wait about half an hour for the key holder to turn up. Client had left the Key holders phone number at home so eventually decides to go home and get it. Turns out she should have collected the keys and opened up herself. Eventually get in at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

Got the music up and running in 15 minutes and stuck a Now CD on while we finished the lights and tidied up.

Function went okay for a 13th. Most popular oldie requested was Bon Jovi's Livin On A Prayer.

I thought my Saturday night gig was a total disaster. I was feeling pretty awful with "man flu". When we arrived we got reminded by the venue manager that the power to the sockets gets cut off at 12.05am and also about the limiter. Fortunately the manager allowed me to plug into a socket that wasn't controlled by the limiter as long I kept the lights in the the green and was sensible.

I missed queued a few tracks so there was a silence before the next one started as well as played a couple in the wrong place. Was really struggling all night. There weren't many dancing for most of the night. Was booked until midnight but by 11pm, there were only about 15 people left. Client went home at the end without even speaking to me so I thought she must have noticed. Really felt like kicking the cat (if I had one) when I got home.

But I was surprised today to receive an email from the client:

"Sorry I didn't get to speak to you personally but I just wanted to say a big thankyou for your disco on Saturday night. I had lots of people say they enjoyed the music and that is was nice to be able to talk as well. Even the spring chickens in the crowd said they often go out and cant talk to family and friends because the music is painfully loud. It definately helped make the party a success."

My Sons 9th went well. 20 Children, lots of games and cake.

I was still hassled for "one more song" I gave them 30 seconds to agree a song...

High School Musical was the winner, with All for One.

I had to wash my ears out with a healthy helping of "The Clash" on the way home! lol

The 21st was also a good one. Basically it was non-stop cheese all night... The birthday girl just said "carry on with what you're playing - I'm having a great time!".. Back to Rock n Roll and 60s it was then!

She later asked for "..that 'Low' song... its fairly new"... Her work mates then got up and sang on the mic to "My Boy Lolipop", great fun.

Just a wedding for me.

Didnt start off well, the email said one place got there only to be told it was in a different part of the hotel (with STAIRS).

Started setting up ran out of sockets  so 2 lights didnt get plugged in.

But thats where the bad bit ends, Stuck my usual back ground cd on ( something with a bit of a beat ) just to get the feet tapping , but blow me they got up and started and didnt stop all night RESULTTTTTTTTT.

Fully how it works like that isn't it

Friday - Seriously 'mates rate' 40th Birthday for a friends wife. lots of kids there hitting each other with balloons running around etc. Tried to get the formalities out the way early but it was 930 before we got going. Played lots of kids tunes to try and wear the kids out. Dancers for most of the night, through till 12. Mostly chart, rnb, bit of cheese.

Saturday - 18th Birthday. Seriously mardy crowd, would only dance to specific records, not records similar to the specific ones (i,e Saturdays, but not Girls Aloud ??) even though i was mixing to try and keep the tempo and the floor. Mostly Dance / Rnb / Chart requested and this was the brief. Fortunately somebody requested Abba at 11:15 and I thought, what the hell!. Cheese fest. Floor packed till midnight.

As anyone with teenagers will know, Flow Rider's 'Low' comes from the movie Step Up 2: The Streets...of course you knew that, amd that great memorable song from the first film 'Step Up' sung by Samantha Jade.....yeah sure. :D
