  1. Did NYE at my regular Restaurant (6th NYE for them, how time fly's). Mainly older crowd so they were mainly into 1960's and rock n roll. I tried loads of different genres but they wanted their 60's. Dance floor full from 9-30 till we played last track at 1am. Thought I had lost them just after midnight :scared: but they had all gone outside to call friends on their mobiles lol . As last guests left Restaurant, the staff wanted to dance so off we went again until about 1-30am Cascada T2 etc. This as a total contrast to the music played all night. Really enjoyed the gig especially when a re
  2. Right, last song December 1963 - Four Seasons 1st Song 08 was Celebration - Kool and the gang. Good night and both tracks worked well :good:
  3. Well done Andy, glad you had a "Good Un" I quite like the retro 70's look it wouldn't do for us all to be the same. I still take out way to much gear but I fear I am to old to change now. Best wishes for 2008 - Mick
  4. Well to all you who said no, no, no, you will need it if there are any amount of under 21's at your gig. Pay your 79p and grin and bear it, Bah humbug :yuck: . Bigest requested track at all the parties I have done this year. Fills the floor and that has got to make it worth the money. Remember Crazy Frog :fright: we still have to play that, and that bl :cense: dy jinngle bells single by the little green moped rider. Andy, you may even need the Soul'ja Boy in that remote village hall on new years eve - nowhere is safe. Who said this job was easy ? - Merry Christmas
  5. Yes I have always put a bit of tinsel around the front of the stand at Christmas. The place I do Christmas parties is quite glitzy and the first year I dJ'd there I was complimented by the owner on taking the trouble to add this final touch. I have had regular bookings for the last 7 years so maybe better not stop now :aa One thing to mention is be carfull with tinsel around hot lamps and wiring connectors :fright: I only place it well away from such areas.
  6. Guess what my most requested tracks were last night ? T2 Heartbroken followed by, yes you've know don't you - Soulja Boy - Crank That :omg: and I have not got either of them :aa
  7. Last night, Christmas disco at big school, Cotten Eye Joe, Never played it at this gig before even though i've been gigging at the school for five years. Somebody asked for the track and I nearly forgot to play it having worked through the usual mountain of RnB, emo and party stuff, I put it on and 400 kids all hit the floor and started linking arms and swinging round.
  8. Posh function, wedding, ball or prom I dress smart with black tie (actually white with black shirt) Christmas party or 18th/21st smart trousers and open necked smart shirt (I dont do ties as I look like a waiter lol) School or young teens disco - corporate wear with embroided logo so myself and roadies are easily identified Unless special theme and then I dress to impress ! As for naturists too f :cense: g cold in Derbyshire.
  9. Have a listen at Amy's version of Cupid. I love it and think her voice is amazing. Such a shame that her life is such a mess, I for one have no time for her antics but you can't help but notice her talent.
  10. Another track that has worked for me is Christina Aguilera - Candyman. BTW - The original thread said a Noughties track so no Abba, Communards or Tiffany allowed so there - lol
  11. Cascada - Kids in America (attracts all age groups - hopefully)

    Stars On 45

I have never been asked for it and I never choose to play it, although as has been said I would if it was requested. I have it on my Juke Box in the house and have been known to play it accidently :aa
  13. I have just dmx'd my lighting and apart from the turmoil of setting all the dip switches and working out all those :cense: numbers I am so pleased with the result. What a difference, the lighting can be tuned exactly to the event and/or track and having done my first gig last night with the new setup I am well impressed. No more slow dances with gobo's hurtling across the dance floor. And as Marky says just switch to a programme and let the controller do the work.
  14. Very interesting Brian, I would have liked to attend your seminar but could only get on the Saturday so this has made up for it a bit. I think what you say makes a lot of sense. I suppose I do a lot of what you say without actually classing myself as a mixing DJ. I need to practice the beat matching bit though :hphone: I think that will have to be my new year resolution. Well done on the seminar, you are all a credit to the DJ business.
  15. Nice to hear from you again, I am glad you are enjoying life - Best wishes - Mick
  16. I played the Gina G track a few weeks ago at an autumn ball and it worked well with the crowd. I have loads of tracks that I know would go well but never seem to get around to playing them. I have a rule that we always play at least one completely different old track at my regular venue and sample the reaction - Good choice there although 99 red balloons has an erratic tempo and is strange to dance to.
  17. Have to agree, it was way too loud, and trying to have a conversation with the salespeople on the stands was almost impossible. I was talking sorry shouting to the man on the Bose stand but simply gave up. The seminars were very good but again on the Saturday the speakers were struggling even with the pa to make themselves heard. That's the negative comments done with and forgotten, now for the positive. Wicked show, very good value, fantastic selection of gear, great to see other sides of the business that I never come across in my area, Seminars were really good, (wish I could have gone t
  18. About five years ago we did an 18th in a club in Leek (Staffs) and some random request came in for Dave Clarke - Glad all Over, I put it on expecting a couple of old grannies to get up and the place went mad and every one hit the dance floor :toot: So much so that the sound limiter switched me off when they stamped the floor :aa I never did find out why it had such an effect on all the youngsters there.
  19. They do at the big school we work regularly at. They always ask for a couple of smoochies and last week we played Leona Lewis (Bleeding love) and Bill medly (time of my life) their choices. Why not ask them early on and then decide.

    Musical Tips

As for what to finish on: I always finish the night with a few slow dances followed with a good upbeat or sing song to send them home singing and happy Apart from from School disco's where I like to calm em down at the end before I release them on unsuspecting adults :ads:

I honestly don't know, my only way of judging popularity is by what is being requested at gigs and by that I mean gigs with a large proportion of under 20's. Their requests tend to mirror stuff in the radio one chart. I did a big school gig on thursday and the tracks requested off pro disc 88 were track 14 Sean KIngston, 20 Timberland and 21 Kanye West most of the other tracks requested were all from stuff I had downloaded from i-tunes ie: Sugarbabes, Leona Lewis, Hoosiers, Take That etc.

I agree, they are getting less and less use, I am having to download more tracks than ever to get the stuff I am asked for. Mastermix rung me today asking if I wanted to buy the ones that got away but by now I have them all and probably by next year no one will want them anyway. It is a problem and I am not sure if the other promo's are any better.
